Evergreen Basic Needs (EBN)

Evergreen Basic Needs (EBN)

Is a charitable, community based organization working to eliminate hunger and food insecurity through food distribution, education and support programs in partnership and cooperation with the community. We provide services and support that address issues that create food insecurity. In partnership with Winnipeg Harvest, EBN distributes 4000 kg (10,000 pounds) of surplus food on a monthly basis to Gimli and surrounding communities in the East Interlake Region. EBN gratefully accepts gently used donations of clothing, housewares, books, giftware and furniture for resale in our retail area. All funds generated by Respun Threads go directly to operations, providing employment and program funding for the community.

Monthly & Emergency Hampers

Monetary and food donations help us to supplement the food budget of community members by providing food hampers twice a month to assist families on a short or long term basis.

Community Service Program

EBN provides two streams of community service programs; the first program is exclusively for High School students enrolled within the Evergreen School Division. Students can earn a credit by volunteering 110 hours. The second program is for individuals who are required to fulfill obligations of a court mandated community service.

Life Essentials Program

This program offers gently used clothing, furniture and household items to those in need; applicants must fill out a registration form.

Adult Learning Centre

We provide tutors and support for individuals to obtain a Mature Student High School Diploma. The Centre also offers introductory classes into basic computer skills. Computers have become a gateway to an independent life. Whether someone is looking for employment, information or simply to communicate with friends and family, basic computer skills are becoming essential to everyday life.

Respun Threads

Our gently used clothing, housewares and furniture store provides a constant funding stream for EBN programs and services. All profits generated from store sales stay in the community providing employment, training and support services to Gimli and the surrounding communities in the East Interlake Region. EBN provides furniture donation pick-up service and a $10.00 delivery fee within the Town of Gimli/Aspen Park. Within a 30 km radius $20.00 – over 30 km will be negotiated.
